Raised in a household of artists, Sara Mayeno was exposed to art every day growing up.
She received her BA in mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley and her
teaching certification at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
While studying mathematics at UC Berkeley and then after graduating,
Ms. Mayeno continued taking art classes. After teaching for 10 years,
Ms. Mayeno decided to take time off to spend more time caring for her young children and
developing her art.
In 1999, while taking a painting class from artist Frank Cole,
Ms. Mayeno tried painting with acrylic on canvas for the first time.
Very pleased with this medium, she has been painting with acrylics ever since.
She also works in other media, including textile and tile.
